Acquirer acceptance testing (AAT)

The introduction of chip and PIN has given rise to some new standards set by the card schemes. These new standards exist to ensure interoperability and security is maintained.

If you own your point-of-sale system, it is important that you understand the approvals and acceptance process. You should be aware that the approval process for chip and PIN differs significantly from traditional magnetic stripe tests and is technically more complicated.

The Chip and PIN Programme advice is that you discuss your chip and PIN plans with your acquirer at the earliest opportunity, as they will need to test your equipment before you can start accepting chip and PIN transactions.
