Using chip and PIN cards

Paying with your chip and PIN card is very similar to what you did before except that where you are asked to sign, you are now asked to enter your PIN via a PIN pad.

In some retail outlets you may be asked to insert the card into the card reader yourself.

Your PIN should not be disclosed when making a purchase via mail order, telephone, or internet purchases; you should never reveal your PIN to anyone else in any circumstances.

This section contains step by step guidance on where and how to use your card in different situations. You can find further information on using chip and PIN in the Frequently asked questions.
