Since 14 February 2006, customers must know their PINs for their chip and PIN cards to be sure they can pay. If shoppers don't use PIN, their card may be declined as the option of signing can no longer be guaranteed. You will need to ask for an alternative method of payment.
There are a number of important exceptions where cardholders can continue to sign:
